Top-down Aims, But Bottom-up Initiatives and Implementation.

- Overview

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a key part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0). It's a combination of machine learning, big data analytics, and growing computing power.

In Industry 4.0, AI combines many technologies to help machines and software understand, act, and learn human actions. AI can help companies analyze their individual components' results.

AI is changing how organizations function and grow in many ways, including:

  • Smart manufacturing
  • Predictive maintenance
  • Quality control
  • Supply chain optimization
  • Data analytics
  • Tailored consumer experiences

AI benefits the manufacturing sector the most in areas like: Production planning, Predictive maintenance, Machinery inspection, Logistics, Inventory management, Process control.

For example, Google's AI-enabled NEST thermostat can control the heating and cooling of homes and businesses to conserve energy.

- AI for Industry 4.0

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the ability of computers to imitate or even surpass human abilities in data analysis. It is derived from complexity theory, which studies dynamical systems and their emergent properties.

In practice, with the help of AI, it is possible to build computers that can learn autonomously and perform more complex analyzes than humans.

Thanks to AI, increasingly advanced image recognition systems are being developed. Image recognition is a data science technology that uses a combination of tools and specific algorithms to obtain information from specific images through certain sensors to obtain various useful information in the application field.

For example, color and chromaticity changes, shape, object position and everything else useful for a specific production line and storage can be identified.

Machine learning (ML) enables predictions to be made based on large amounts of data. This branch of AI is built upon pattern recognition and has the ability to independently draw knowledge from experience. For this reason, the technology has found its place in industrial processes.

- Industry 4.0 Technologies are Changing Manufacturing

AI is no longer a vision for the future. Today, large data centers and enormous storage capacities make things possible that were believed for years to be distant concepts. Two branches of AI, ML and deep learning, use the possibilities of big data to optimize processes, find new solutions, and gain new insights.

Industry 4.0 is revolutionizing the way companies manufacture, improve and distribute products. Manufacturers are integrating new technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing and analytics, AI and ML into their production facilities and entire operations.

These smart factories are equipped with advanced sensors, embedded software and robots to collect and analyze data and make better decisions. Even greater value can be created when data from manufacturing operations is combined with operational data from ERP, supply chain, customer service and other enterprise systems to create new levels of visibility and insight from previously siled information.

This digital technology can increase automation, predictive maintenance, self-optimization of process improvements and, most importantly, increase efficiency and responsiveness to customers to unprecedented levels.
