Radio Frequency (RF) microelectronics is a branch of electrical engineering that creates tiny semiconductor chips and circuits to transmit, receive, and process high-frequency electromagnetic waves. These systems typically operate at frequencies from 20 kHz to 300 GHz.

RF microelectronics relies on specialized building blocks built onto silicon or compound semiconductor materials:

  • Amplifiers: Boost weak incoming signals or increase power for outgoing transmission.
  • Mixers: Shift signals up or down between baseband and high radio frequencies.
  • Filters: Select specific frequencies while blocking unwanted electrical noise and interference.
  • Oscillators: Generate stable carrier frequencies for tuning and signal generation.
