- Overview

Token-based computing is an integrative framework that uses tokens as discrete units of information, identity, or resource consumption across artificial intelligence (AI), distributed systems, and security protocols.

Core Concepts of Token Computing:

  • AI Processing Units: In AI, tokens are tiny pieces of text, images, or audio (such as words or subwords) that large language models process to understand context and generate output.
  • The Token Economy: Tokens serve as the primary currency and metric for measuring real-time computing demand, inference work, and API pricing models across cloud and AI providers.
  • Distributed & Quantum Systems: Across heterogeneous and quantum networks, tokens act as discrete computational entities managed through dynamic techniques like clustering, aggregation, and cryptographic transformation.
  • Security & Authentication: In cybersecurity, tokens (such as JSON Web Tokens or multi-factor software/hardware tokens) replace sensitive credentials or data vaults to grant secure, granular access without exposing passwords.
